Cyclists and other species

Cyclists, proper cyclists wear those funny tights with what looks like a place for a nappy, not sure why but maybe it is for those unexpected times they going downhill and they realise their brakes do not work. I must ask Michael, he is very knowledgeable in all things cycling, especially in the appropriate attire and brand of such attire. Gary is a bit of a girl when it comes to cycling gear, all pastel and flowery

Getting back to this discussion on cycling, Robert has taken to this sport with enthusiasm, he too is slowly acquiring the latest in fashion and design, not only his clothing but bike maintenance is of paramount importance. Muc-Off is doing well and that bicycle is better looked after than anything he owns. As you can see from the photo, no expense is spared in maintaining a clean, well-serviced bicycle. I am surprised to see they have a vegetarian degreaser and plant-based wet lube, so environmentally friendly.

Those boys did some miles on Friday, 103 km to be exact. Talking of Robert, he asked me on the beach this morning, where the expression “We had a whale of a time” came from. Interesting and I did find out. It dates back to 1895 and means:

A very enjoyable experience, as in We had a whale of a time in Venice. This idiom alludes to the largest mammal to describe something very large and impressive.

Quite simple but at the time it did make me think, always try the obvious until proved wrong.

On another topic, we all know we have different species of animals and plants but what about humans? Take the equine species, you get horses, donkeys, Zebras etc. The horse is large, whereas the donkey grey and smaller in stature. In humans the Danish are normally tall and white as opposed to the Indian from India, they are short and dark, are they a different species? What are your thoughts? Maybe humans are a species, the same as golden retrievers are a species, in their own right. Would be a little odd as the Chinese are quite different in appearance to the Danes. Just as the Dachshunds, Sausage dog, is quite different from the Labrador.

Just to finish off, on Monday I will be getting my first Covid Vaccination. Yep, they have given me the nod. On the subject of vaccinations, I see the EU is moaning that the UK has all the vaccine jabs and they have none. In answer, I must add this open letter sent to the EU only yesterday.
