Storm Dorset

Spring is slowly blowing out, helped on by 60ml wind and rain to sink an island. Summer will get here, it is just dragging its heels. Today was like every other day we have had the last three weeks but we were dry and the wind held off so a bonus really. Challenging weather to come this week, we do live in hope for a dry, warm bank holiday weekend at the end of the week.

Enough of the weather, we had a very enjoyable evening last night at Michael and Kate’s flat. They have decorated and changed that flat to a modern, light warm environment that is welcoming and comfortable. The days are long gone when it was cold and dark, unfortunately so were the times for the previous owner.

Lady Vivienne came calling today, wanting company on her yearly trip to the garden centre. We tried the newly refurbished Blooms and Baskets in West Parley and we were very impressed. All the plants were a healthy and reasonable price. Popular with the locals and a welcome change to our normal browse around the garden section of B&Q, let’s face it those plants normally are on their last legs and it does take all ones gardening expertise to nurse them back to life. Sadly my knowledge is limited and we do have casualties.

Anyway, I digress, LV bought 6 hanging baskets and a dozen or so other plants, as one does on a yearly pilgrimage to stock your garden with colour. Our solitary basket was banished to the back seat of her SUV. Leaving the garden centre, we decided to look around the newly refurbished dining pub in West Parley called The Pear. Lovely gardens and friendly staff invited us in for coffee, no food as the kitchen was closed. Pleasant and I would go back, the coffee is mediocre at best but the setting is worth a visit. Avoid the weekend as there are an extraordinary amount of young children, with posh daddies and mommies giggling behind them, as they explore the grounds on their wobbly, young legs.

I wonder if you picked up the news that the famous Beano comics are changing the name of the one character, yep, Fatty will no longer be called that, as it might offend all the fat kids who read the comics and also put ideas into the other children’s heads. From now on Fatty will be called Freddy, he will still be fat but that will never change.

This leads me on to another interesting conversation we had with LV. Seems her boyfriend has decided to grow his hair long so as to be able to tie it in a ponytail. LV is not impressed, her thoughts are it will be a little like an old rocker trying to regain his youth. I see her problem, his wardrobe is leaning towards the pink, as opposed to men of his age in their cords and earthy colours. In all fairness, he is a singer/songwriter and goes under the name of Harp F. I personally like his music and hope the pinks and ponytail will take him to new heights of creativity. Does remind me a little of Russell, my brother and hotelier of some repute, he is in touch with his feminine side and tends to enjoy the softer side of dressing, always wears a pink shirt with a hat, most particular about that.
