Burger Night

Our burger nights have become a tradition and as with all traditions, they take work. Robert has taken to be the BBQ master cooker. Prepares his coals properly, giving him the perfect platform to cook over a long period. Over the last few months, we have been dazzled by the expertise he has shown in his cooking. From chargrilled chicken, BBQ burger, sweet chilli pork ribs, rump steak and the eternal favourite, Cumberland sausages. We have feasted and revelled in the company of good people.

Alex decided to visit us today, not sure what the alternative was and I am not about to ask, always good to have him around on a Saturday. Gary and Dan were playing a big cricket match against Surrey and Hampshire. This was proper cricket, hundred balls and burgers. Gary and Dan cooked the burgers and played the hundred, scoring reasonable well, against popular feeling and Dan bowled well. Well, being the operative word, he was hit for 4 sixes and a four before Gary retired him to the boundary, Gary is the Captain and has taken on the mantle of leadership very seriously. Susan and Alex explored Delph Wood and I do believe they found the tracks of a dinosaur, their version of the story but as I was not with them, it has to stand.

This does bring back memories of last week, we all went to Studland for a pie and a pint. Not really, we did go to Studland but passed the offer of a pie in favour of more substantial food. Gary and I opted for the Ploughman’s, excellent choice with meat and cheese, with dressed salad, apple, Isle of Purbeck Brewery chutney, pickled onion & locally made granary bread. Susan, Claudia and Alex ordered the pizza and the boys had a white baguette with a dressed side salad and Brie & Cranberry filling, I think, but do not quote me on that.

As you can see from the photo, I am the one who is unsure of what to say after a chilli soaked pickled onion. The ales were excellent and the food very well prepared, tasty and worth the price. The boys, Gary, Michael and Robert all had a second pint of Studland Bay Wrecked and I was tempted, so much so that I had another, well, half-pint. In all fairness, I did have the lower alcohol Purbeck IPA. We did raise a glass to absent family, a fitting location to remember them. Rest now, my boy.

If you are ever in England, do pop over to the Banks Arms and enjoy a pint or two with some pub fare.
