A Story of The Humbly Spreadsheet

In keeping with the time we are in and the religious significance of this time. In the ancient world of nativity, there are many blanks we must just surmise. When Jesus was born, Caesar wanted to know how many people he ruled and this was why Joseph and Mary had travelled to Bethlehem. It was a census and all had to go to major centres and register.

This was the start of what we call a database today and some clerk in some official office would have taken their details and consigned it to some type of 1st-century database. Crude handwritten information that would take an eternity to sort into anything useful. Now, this is where the humble spreadsheet would have been a great time saver.

Information can make for a better world but also help oppressors be more efficient. We must not forget those that use this data to improve our lives. We might think they are dull, boring people, but they are not and their facts help us every day of our lives.

Christmas has a heartwarming message of hope but, this year I want to give thanks to the humble spreadsheet.

Now onto more dramatic events that occurred last night while we were asleep. The house that Michael and Robert built fell down, collapsed to a pile of soggy gingerbread. One does wonder how good the structural integrity was and did they follow the guidelines laid out by the building control department of the government? Indeed, did they follow any instructions, seems not to be the case. Lesson learnt, do not entertain the idea of those two rogue builders, here today and gone tomorrow!

Any news on the other Gingerbread houses? Lady Vivienne has commented that her house is still standing, no less than we would expect of a Gingerbread house of such beauty. I might add it took 2 hours to build and I think superglue was used to fix the walls. I would imagine the Chocolate house has been eaten, Kate has a ferocious appetite when it comes to chocolate. Talking of Kate, Michael and Kate are going down to a shepherds hut in Cornwall for the coming of the New Year for a few days, weather is always good in Cornwall over the New Year. Have fun guys.
