Graduation Day

There are two ways to live your life
One is as though nothing is a miracle
The other is as though everything is

It is Roberts GRADUATION today, 6th December 2021, a great achievement and we are looking forward to our trip to Bath University. Small problem, Robert had no shoes, panic buying was the order of the morning. In the end, he wore his old boots.

That set the tone for the rest of the day. Once we had found parking I asked Robert where we had to go, he had no idea! That was a pattern throughout the day and it is to be expected. Because of the lockdown, most universities did their tuition online, the great Microsoft Teams was the format of the class. So, in all fairness, none of his year group knew where anything was as they were not at the university.

Finally found where to get his gown and hat and made our way to the graduation hall where we were seated in pairs. It was a great ceremony with all the pomp and splendour befitting Bath University. Well done Robert, an MSc in Applied Psychology and Behavioural Economics, is no small feat. Interestingly Susan and Robert have long conversations about things Psychological, Susan is a Psychic and Robert is a Psychologist. I have learnt to keep my thoughts to myself, this is way beyond my pay grade. Robert will now be known as Robert Smith MSc (Bath).

I forget how much those academics like the sound of their own voices, brings back the days when you had to listen to the headmaster giving his take on the year that was just past. Must say they did have a very drinkable red wine to finish off the day.

Thinking of graduation and what it means to those who graduate. My advice is to never stop learning, your life is a journey of experience and learning and this is the beginning. Your first big step on life education, knowledge, is the key to success. Always be a student and let your thirst for knowledge be your compass.

My parting thought - this year, as the human world remained locked in pandemic-induced upheaval, the hidden worlds of wild animals carried on, oblivious. - National Geographic
