Those days before Christmas

My midday swim is a challenge to say the least, that cold water rush, takes your breath away and it does take a while to breathe normally, still worth it.

This evening started with me phoning Claudia to discuss the order of events for Christmas, I was of the opinion that Gary should do the Turkey crown and then he said there is too much meat and decided to stand in front of the television. Well, after that our conversation was punctuated with Gary you not made of glass. That boy needs to get out more. Yes, I know he has Covid but fresh air has its benefits and he is starting to show the stains.

I am doing the leg of lamb and the turkey crown, let’s keep the peace and live to have another happy day.

In all fairness, their son has disowned them and is now living with his girlfriend, he is only 16! He does not want to get covid and so will endure all manner of hardship to be covid free.

Susan has been in the shopping mood and has bought more presents than our dining room table can hold. Must admit I would not mind a few of those gifts in my stocking. I would love to go into detail but it is not for me to give away the details of who gets what, Michael does seem to have quite a few but then maybe he has been especially good! I am comforted by our Christmas tree, which, when lit up brings the spirit of Christmas. Mark bought the tree 21 years ago and we inherited it from him when he moved back to South Africa, that tree has stood the test of time and is like an old friend.

That eternal question, ‘What should we get someone?’ I have been asked that question on many occasions and can truthfully say I have no idea. At my age, impulse buying has eluded me and I am blind to the obvious. I shop with a list, I will forget half of what I am there for if I do not have a list. This has its drawbacks as I miss any good offer if it is not on the list. I see little purpose in wandering around a shop in the hope of finding something you might want, like or think will be a good present for someone. So if you are stuck on what to buy someone, count me out, it is not on the list.

Robert is trawling through the house to rent section on the web, he starts in Nottingham on the 6th January and has yet to find a place to stay. I do believe we will be hiring a van at short notice, to take all his furniture.

In parting, hope believes when you standing in the dark, looking out at the light, anything is possible.
