Weekend Breakfasts

Well, it is the weekend and we have decided it will be breakfast at quaint cafes in the Dorset area. The first stop was Saturday morning breakfast with Lady Vivienne and Fraser Harper, I know, name dropping again but when you are on first name terms with a famous singer/songwriter, Fraser, and the Lady Vivienne, then it just has to be done.

The plan was breakfast at The Cloister but they are proving to be very popular and not even the formidable Lady V could persuade some of the peasants to finish up so we could have a table. We made our way across the road to La Petit Prince, an artisan bakery, come coffee shop with a small selection of food. I settled for a Simple Sausage sandwich and Susan, Fraser and Lady V had smashed avocado and bacon on sourdough toast.

Fraser and Lady V had just returned from getting a brace of partridge for their evening dinner, the posh do that sort of thing, they think it keeps them grounded.

I enjoyed the company and the coffee was good. Michael, Robert and I have been there before, on that occasion for lunch and as with this visit, we were not disappointed. We left Fraser and Lady V to go home and feather, gut and clean their birds while Susan and I did some window shopping in Wimborne. It is a charming little village and worth a visit, Fraser had decided to put off the birds and do some basking for beer money. I did see someone drop a coin in his hat, so maybe the beer money was forthcoming.

Sunday morning Susan woke early and went for her swim with her faithful companion, Jenson, and then we were on the road again, this time to Westbourne, to ‘83’ to be exact. It was the first cafe serving breakfast under £8 that we came across. I had the breakfast bagel, pork sausage meat, bacon, cheese and fried egg. Susan had the sliced avocado topped with sliced spring onion and poached egg on sourdough toast, I know, she is a creature of habit. This time I do believe she found the perfect combination. Very pleasant morning meal, ’83’ does specialise in a gluten-free and vegan type of food, too healthy to be any good but they have the right balance.

We went for a walk around Westbourne and spotted Jessica enjoying breakfast with her boyfriend, a really nice looking guy, Jack was his given name but so different from what we expected. Jessica was cool with her nose and ears pierced and tattoos and he was smart casual, I think he is a banker. Well, you never know with Jessica, we do expect her to bring home the strays. Jess also had the sliced avocado topped with sliced spring onion and poached egg on sourdough toast, which really is the in-food for the young and trendy.
