Exaggeration and a Birthday

We all exaggerate on occasions but some of us in my family take exaggeration to the extreme. Gary is someone that springs to mind, he will say that it is a million miles away when in fact it is only 102 miles.

The day dawned with cloudy skies and a fresh breeze. Susan set off early for her morning swim, yep she is still swimming every morning even with our morning temperatures hovering around -2 deg C.

We had booked a table at Urban Reef, a cafe on Boscombe beach and Robert had driven down the night before to surprise her. She had her wish, breakfast with her boys. Well young and older men now, Gary, Michael and Robert, her boys, nonetheless. Good food and the coffee was not too bad. Angela would have enjoyed the banter and the Eggs Benedict, that was my pick, the others all went for a full English.

Presents were given and I do fear by the end of the day, Susan was feeling a little overwhelmed but really happy for all the thoughtful gifts she received.

The day flew by and next, I knew it was time to start preparing for the party. As I was expecting 16 people, we did a quick vacuum and dusting. Michael and Kate were the first to arrive, closely followed by the Middle Smiths, Pricilla and Bruno, Gemma and Jessica, the Fay’s and finally Daniel. That was 15, not sure who I thought was the mysterious 16th guest.

Some items of clothing did catch my eye, Kate had Doc Martins on and I did comment about them looking rather big on her slender legs. Being a girl of style, she made them look like posh shoes fit for any occasion. I wonder how heavy they actually are. Gemma and Jessica had designer jeans and the latest tops from Top Shop. Did you know that Top Shop is Angela’s favourite fashion store? Pricilla had black leggings and simple dancing slippers, an excellent choice.

Jessica did mention, Jack had asked her to marry him but she had not taken it too seriously and Gemma is still single and enjoying the freedom. Gemma also swims every morning and like Susan, seems immune to the cold, brave girl. Much food and wine were consumed along with a dozen or so pale ales, one hitch, I forgot to cook the chips. Not sure how that happened but in the excitement of the evening it was overlooked. Next time, I promise.

Bruno only had one bottle of red wine as he was driving, one can never be too careful when it comes to drinking and driving.

Like all good parties, someone dropped their glass of red wine and the carpet caught the content. Not really a good party without the odd glass of red wine being spilt.

I did discover an interesting fact while staring at a can of Brewdog Punk IPA. It is a Post Modern Classic and you are saving the planet by drinking this beer. Not sure if you get Brewdog anywhere else in the world but if you come across a can, drink it and save the environment, in fact, drink a few, they do grow on you.

Missed Angela and her entourage and of course Russell and His lovely family. We did speak of them and Angela called us on FaceTime, I must apologise as we were all well into our celebrations by then and did not give her the time she deserved. We missed you Angela and hopefully will be together soon.
